More about this item

This adorable pair of parrots are mid-century planters by Morton Pottery, produced in the USA in the 1950s. A lovely example of mid-century ceramics!

They could be used to hold small succulents or air plants, as a bud vase for flowers or greenery, or they would make great bookends.  Or use them to hold toothpicks or cutlery. Could also be used in the bathroom as unusual toothbrush holders, or fill them with q-tips or cotton balls!

Each planter features a hand-painted parrot sitting on a white base. They don't have drainage holes. The opening of the planter is in the parrot's back, and the inside opens up so it is quite roomy for soil and the plant roots inside the "base" area.

Condition: overall these are in good vintage condition, with some paint wear due to age but no significant post-production chips or cracks.  One parrot does have a visible crack around half its neck (see photos), but it appears to be from the production process.

Size: Each planter measures 6 1/2" in height, 3 3/4" wide by 2 1/2".

Morton pottery was produced in Morton, Illinois from the late 1800s through the late 1970s. It was produced by a number of small ceramics companies in the Morton area during that time, and is quite collectible.
